Only 3 days to go in “GIGABYTE 2010 Best 3D Overclocker Contest” and guess who just joined in on the contest, chew*. Is there a competition he hasn’t joined yet this year? What a competitor! Let’s see what develops as neither Rosty nor chew submitted Stage 4 results and something tells me backups are possibly being withheld too hehehe.

Who’s mug will grace GIGABYTE’s website as a celebrity overclocker? Let’s keep an eye on this one for a few more days.

Aussies do it again, PCMARK Vantage world record smashed using the X58A-UD7rev2.0 this time round!

A few weeks ago TeamAU boys, youngpro & dinos22, took out the PCMV World Record but had to contend with a strong backup from a US overclocker. Well the stars aligned again and the guys braved it out live video steaming their attempt.

After a first safe run at 5.7Ghz the record tumbled by a cool 1500 points and extended again to 42,566. Following that run it got a bit wild on the livesteam with Andy from i4memory.com showing up with a case of beer. All sorts of tweaks were employed including a sun tweak, beer cooled NB tweak, printer tweak just to name a few which were all all busted as myths in the end heheh.

For more live overclocking you can bookmark their page and watch out for twitter and facebook updates. Here are the sites, livesteam channel, twitter and facebook.

The OverClocker Magazine is back, UD9 triumphs over R3E in a close battle!

The OverClocker Magazine is back. Nick Ross who used to run the publication has moved on to run one of Australia’s busiest web tech sites run by ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). Neo Sibeko, from South Africa, took over the reigns  from Nick and promised in his editorial letter to run the mag in timely bimonthly issues. Great news indeed!

GIGABYTE X58A-UD9 was reviewed in this issue against Rampage 3 Extreme. UD9, having picked up the Recommended Award, showed its true colours under extreme cooling as expected. Here is a quote i think summerises it best:

We are simply looking at it from an extreme overclocking point of view at which board will offer us the best functionality and options for achieving the highest and most efficient overclocks. Simply put, the UD9 is the board to beat. It has the right layout, the ability to run 4 graphics cards at maximum speed and it’s faster in SuperPI.

Under extreme cooling we find the UD9 feels a lot more stable and responsive, it has the most predictable behaviour, doing exactly what you need it too and is just a dream to use.

There can be only one Mini-ITX board, windwithme showing off his GIGABYTE H55N-USB3 based HTPC

GIGABYTE’s pocket rocket Mini-ITX H55N-USB3 board just keep impressing every time someone else does a system build. Windwithme from Taiwan recently did a build showing off his HTPC with this board and did some overclocking just to break from the norm only to hit 5Ghz with relative easy from what can be seen. I’ve added a couple of shots from the thread at XS including a crazy lower idle power consumption of 62W while overclocked at 4Ghz (WOW).

Corsair’s 1200W PSU manages an unbelievable 1489W with a 4-way SLI’d X58A-UD9

image Jake Crimmins, Corsair's resident Gitmo Geek, recently put their Corsair Professional Series™ Gold AX1200 PSU through it’s paces on a fully stacked X58A-UD9 (yes, that’s 4-way SLI). With an idle draw of a mere 457W (ahem) the PSU whistled through 3DMark Vantage at a maximum of 1145W, and topped out at a brain numbing 1489W during a stressful Unigine Heaven run – now that’s a benchmark to keep an eye on!
